Many people wonder how celebrities got discovered. Did they go through a talent agent or was it the academy they visited to learn acting that opened the doors? Or did they just happened to be in the right place at the right time when a directory or producer needed someone specific and they were the perfect match? There is no such formula that would provide you with a solution. As a matter of fact, every celebrity most likely had a different way of a) being discovered and b) work her way up to stardom.

Many celebrities had plain and normal jobs before they became famous. Take Megan Fox as an example. She started her career in a smoothie shop and sometimes even had to wear a Banana costume. Ellen DeGeneres worked in a car wash as a driver. Gwen Stefani worked at a Dairy Queen before becoming famous. Tina Fey started out a Snack Bar at a swim club.

From these examples you can tell that there is no such thing as a roadmap to fame. Whatever works to bring in money to pay the bills, celebrities had to do it. Pretty much the same way it works for you. With one difference though – the celebrities grabbed an opportunity at one point and it paid off. They might also have put in some extra efforts to get to where they are today. Some childhood celebrities were discovered through photo contests or talent shows. However, famous child actors and stars never were able to carry their fame over into adulthood. I have heard about celebrities that won a photo contest and started out with being that cute baby in a TV commercial.

Many ways lead to stardom and fame, but many more ways do not lead to anything at all. It is like playing the lottery – you never know when or how or if you win. The same is definitely true with becoming a celebrity. Pick the wrong movies to play and you never make it. Get lucky and be the main actor in a movie of a newbie directory who then lands a smash hit – you are all set. Think Julia Roberts and the movie “Pretty Woman”. That movie was extremely successful and pushed Julia Roberts into the top league at Hollywood. Not many other female actors were able to ask for huge salaries and got them, too.

Conclusion: There is no one way to become famous. Expect to work a normal job before being discovered by a talent agent. Consider participation in talent shows or photo contest to get your face out there.

It amazes me that you can stick a pin in a map and there will always be a link to someone famous. Either someone was born there, someone lived there or maybe someone died there.

I was walking around my local town centre recently and saw a building with a plaque on it that said “In this house lived Oliver Cromwell’s second in command”. Perhaps this man is not the most famous person in the world but imagine how England may have been different without him. Would Oliver Cromwell still have usurped the king?

Let me take another place to prove my point, I’ll get my pin out of my draw and stick it in my map. Last time it was Boise, but this time the pin definitely landed in London but specifically I’d say it was in the Islington, perhaps being more precise I could even narrow it down to Moorgate.

So who lived in Moorgate? Let me just check on the invaluable resource that is Wikipedia.

It looks like John Keats was born in Moorgate, in the Hoop and Swan pub that has now been renamed the “Keats at the Globe.” Perhaps he is not the most read poet, as when I was at school we read Blake, but nevertheless he is extremely well-known.

Here’s a few lines from Ode To A Nightingale just to raise your awareness:

My heart aches, and a drowsy numbness pains
My sense, as though of hemlock I had drunk,
Or emptied some dull opiate to the drains
One minute past, and Lethe-wards had sunk…

That’s just a brief section but I think it’s rather good, very sombre and worth reading. Anyway, I’ve slightly gone off topic but the point I was making is that it is amazing who might have walked the streets you now use to get to work or who may have been born in the building just around the corner.

And if your work in offices near Moorgate then it may be a good time to make the most of the location and brush up on some Keats.

When impersonating famous people, there is a right way and a wrong way. The right way is of course, to have been a fan of the person and can at least, somewhat act or copy the person in some way. The wrong way is to simply take advantage of the celebrity as a simple look alike and ride their coattails to fame and glory. Considering that impersonating is the most sincerest form of flattery, one should at least be able to play the part too. Unless of course, one was hired this way simply as a decoy in some fashion.

Impersonating famous people has been around for centuries. Often it was the kings and queens who were the most impersonated and usually not in a very good light. Although, with the advent of Hollywood and the star persona, this has been followed with the impersonations of many different folks.

Sometimes, these impersonations can be quite accurate. For example, Rich Little was absolutely great at impersonating many famous people and more recently, the television show Saturday Night Live has always fared well with their versions. Especially, Tina Fey, who did the Sara Palin impersonation and it literally made her an overnight sensation.

Then there was the movie “Catch Me If You Can” and starred Leonardo Di Caprio as a man who impersonated many not so famous people such as an airline pilot, and would literally get away with it. Therefore, his impersonations would have had to be exquisite in their own right.

Regardless, does one have to choose specifically a famous person in order to properly impersonate? For example, there are many clowns that will usually be available for birthday parties and such. Does this mean that these clowns have to be famous clowns such as Emmit Kelly of Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey fame. Of course not, we all have our perceptions of what a clown is supposed to be and many times, it is the goofy and funny clown that we usually think of and expect when we order that special delivery for little Johnny’s birthday party. This is a generalized version of impersonation.

Now, on the other hand, if one is playing Elvis, then one is expected to look and act, as well as probably sing at least somewhat like the original king of rock and roll. That is our expectations and we will accept no less. This is where the clown has at least some leeway in improvisation and where Elvis will not.

Therefore, simply an attempt at impersonating famous people is considerably different than impersonating famous people including their persona. One would most definitely require having at least some type of so called talent in order to properly do so.

Be sure to let your true talent shine. Get sincere opinions from close family and friends. You may well be a true star in waiting. Have real fun with your true talent

They are the voices in the night, the play-by-play announcers, whose calls have spouted from radio speakers since August 5, 1921 when Harold Arlin called the first baseball game over Pittsburgh’s KDKA. That fall, Arlin made the premier college football broadcast. Thereafter, radio microphones found their way into stadiums and arenas worldwide.

The first three decades of radio sportscasting provided many memorable broadcasts.

The 1936 Berlin Olympics were capped by the stunning performances of Jesse Owens, an African-American who won four gold medals, although Adolph Hitler refused to place them on his neck. The games were broadcast in 28 different languages, the first sporting events to achieve worldwide radio coverage.

Many famous sports radio broadcasts followed.

On the sultry night of June 22, 1938, NBC radio listeners joined 70,043 boxing fans at Yankee Stadium for a heavyweight fight between champion Joe Louis and Germany’s Max Schmeling. After only 124 seconds listeners were astonished to hear NBC commentator Ben Grauer growl “And Schmeling is down…and here’s the count…” as “The Brown Bomber” scored a stunning knockout.

In 1939, New York Yankees captain Lou Gehrig made his famous farewell speech at Yankee Stadium. Baseball’s “iron man”, who earlier had ended his record 2,130 consecutive games played streak, had been diagnosed with ALS, a degenerative disease. That Fourth of July broadcast included his famous line, “…today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth”.

The 1947 World Series provided one of the most famous sports radio broadcasts of all time. In game six, with the Brooklyn Dodgers leading the New York Yankees, the Dodgers inserted Al Gionfriddo in center field. With two men on base Yankee slugger Joe DiMaggio, representing the tying run, came to bat. In one of the most memorable calls of all time, broadcaster Red Barber described what happened next:

“Here’s the pitch. Swung on, belted…it’s a long one to deep left-center. Back goes Gionfriddo…back, back, back, back, back, back…and…HE MAKES A ONE-HANDED CATCH AGAINST THE BULLPEN! Oh, doctor!”

Barber’s “Oh, doctor!” became a catchphrase, as did many others coined by announcers. Some of the most famous sports radio broadcasts are remembered because of those phrases. Cardinals and Cubs voice Harry Caray’s “It might be, it could be, it is…a home run” is a classic. So are pioneer hockey broadcaster Foster Hewitt’s “He shoots! He scores!”, Boston Bruins voice Johnny Best’s “He fiddles and diddles…”, Marv Albert’s “Yes!”

A few announcers have been so skilled with language that special phrases were unnecessary. On April 8, 1974 Los Angeles Dodgers voice Vin Scully watched as Atlanta’s Henry Aaron hit home run number 715, a new record. Scully simply said, “Fast ball, there’s a high fly to deep left center field…Buckner goes back to the fence…it is…gone!”, then got up to get a drink of water as the crowd and fireworks thundered.

Announcers rarely color their broadcasts with creative phrases now and sports video has become pervasive. Still, radio’s voices in the night follow the trails paved by memorable sports broadcasters of the past.

Although more commonly known for its castle and cobbled streets, Edinburgh is also famous for the notable celebrities that have been born and raised there. From authors to prime ministers, Edinburgh has been the birthplace of some of the most notable names of the 20th and 21st century.

One of the most famous of these is children’s book writer J. K. Rowling. Famed for her Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling is considered to be one of the most successful writers of recent times. In fact, J.K. Rowling has sold a very large proportion of copies of the Harry Potter series and is considered to be one of the richest women in Britain.

Of even more significant prestige is Tony Blair, the former British prime minister. Tony Blair was born in Edinburgh in Scotland in 1953 and spent the first few years of his life mainly living in the Willowbrae district of Edinburgh.

Most famous for his role as British prime minister between 1997 and 2007, Blair is also remembered for his role in modernising the Labour Party. Since stepping down as prime minister in 2007, Tony Blair has been teaching at Yale University, as well as working as a public speaker for prestigious events.

Sir Sean Connery is another name to come from Edinburgh that has become well-known around the world. Born in Fountainbridge in Edinburgh, Connery is most famous for his cinema role as James Bond.

While working as a bodybuilder, Connery gained a part in the stage show South Pacific, eventually leading him on to play James Bond in the film Dr. No in 1962. Since then Connery has starred in seven Bond films, as well as countless other award winning movies throughout his career. In recognition of his contributions to modern cinema, Sean Connery was knighted in July 2000.

Irvine Welsh is another highly successful author to come from Edinburgh. Born in Leith, Irvine Welsh has become internationally famous for his fiction writing, particularly his Trainspotting novel which later became a successful film. Since the publication of Trainspotting, Welsh has written six more novels and while none have become as internationally successful as Trainspotting, they have all received literary prestige from reviewers.

From writers to actors, Edinburgh has produced many famous celebrities. An ever-growing number of flights to Edinburgh make it a popular destination for fans looking to explore the city that moulded such famous names.

The Allisons always won because they send continuous power and torque to the wheels, and their torque converters tend to keep engines at speeds where they perform best. The Allisons chronicle the racing careers, and little else, of brothers Bobby and Donnie (both forced to retire by severe injuries), and Bobby’s sons Davey and Clifford (both killed in racing-related accidents).

Bobby Allison was a founding member of NASCAR’s fabled Alabama Gang, but few know that he actually was born in and raised in Miami Florida. In his senior year of high school, Allison entered his first race in South Florida, but his budding career was cut short by his father, who wanted Bobby to stop racing after witnessing his first few wrecks. Bobby Allison would drive his #15 Ford past Buddy Baker and go on to win what would become the first of three Daytona 500 wins. Benny Parsons would finish in third while Cale Yarborough would take 2nd place honors with 33.2 seconds off of Allison’s lead.

Donnie Allison was always the “other” brother of the famous NASCAR racing duo. Overshadowed throughout his career by Bobby Allison, his older brother and with the third highest wins in NASCAR history, Donnie often did not get his due for being an outstanding racer in his own right.

Davey Allison, like his father, was born in South Florida and became the second-generation star of the Alabama Gang. A good all-around athlete, but his racing genes kicked in after his high school graduation and his decision to go racing led him to Birmingham International Raceway for his first start in 1979. Davey Allison’s behind the wheel career began in 1979, with his first win in only his sixth start. He won two ARCA races, finished second in points and won Rookie of the Year honors in 1984. Davey Allison would succumb to his injuries the following morning at the age of 32.

Davey Allison was given mountains to climb and obstacles along the way, and he never complained, never gave up and continued to climb those mountains time and again. I pause to remember Davey Allison, his courage, his determination, his strength and above all his class. Davey Allison’s 1989 season didn’t start well. A year after he and his father’s one-two Daytona 500 finish, Davey started a disappointing 16th, then was involved in an early incident with Geoff Bodine that sent his car careening into the sand bar separating the track’s backstretch from Lake Lloyd. Davey Allison cruised to victory in the 1992 Daytona 500 in the ’92 Daytona 500 past champion #28.

Allison nearly died in a horrific 1988 crash that ended his career. He spent more than 10 years recovering. Allison became the first rookie to sit on the front row of the Daytona 500, a race he eventually won in 1992 after finishing second to his father Bobby four years earlier. Davey Allison won 19 career races on the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit in a brilliant six-year career that came to a premature end when he died in 1993. Allison entered and won that race, along with two others races that week. He had found his lucrative racing.

Donnie Allison also remains actively involved with racing and the Allison Legacy Series as a motorsports consultant. Bobby Allison, a noted ambassador in auto racing, continues his involvement with NASCAR and the Cup Series.

A couple of decades ago, any aspiring artist who wants to make it big in the music industry would have to work every day and every night in order to gain some followers. These days, you can be just inside your house creating your music. And, you can introduce to the people your music via the internet.

If you want to be the next country music star, you won’t really have to play from one bar to another. There are different avenues that you can use in order to let people know of your musical talent. But still, singing songs and playing at small gigs in bars, weddings and other places will help increase your opportunities.

Relocating at a town that has great interest in this music is also a good thing. There can be no better place to start as a country music artist but in Nashville. Aspiring artists and successful ones have one way or another experienced how country music in this place should be.

Aside from the cash that you will be able to get at playing at a small gig, you may be able to use this opportunity to get a few people to know about you and your music. Depending on the day of the week, you can get bigger or smaller amount from the gigs that you will be doing. Sometimes, weddings, birthdays and other celebrations that will need your services can be a good source of finances for you.

When you get the chance you play, you don’t only endear the audience with your music. You should also try to make them remember you by developing your people skills. You have to be charming as much as possible.

Take this as an opportunity to practice your music skills and your performance skills. The best way is to start writing your own songs. Continue to develop the type of music that you have been making. Seek inspiration and motivation so that you can become better every time. You can perform other famous songs by other people. But, also make it a point to play the ones that you composed yourself.

Trying to make a song that is catchy and interesting should be one of the tasks that you need to complete. This might be the only way for your audience to become familiar with your song even if they do not have enough access to it.

Create digital versions of your song even if you are not connected with any record label. This will be your way to introduce your music to music producers. You can also hand out your songs to people who are interested to listen to them.

These days, you have another pathway to success. Bands and country music singers who dream of making it big one day are using the internet to introduce people to their music. There are social networking websites that you can use for free. Use these websites to get people to know who you are. If you have frequent gigs at bars, also make people know where and when you will be playing.

Are Some Academics Altering Photos to Familiar Famous Faces? One College Professor Did

Have you ever seen those photos where they take one individual and merge their face with that of another? It’s pretty tricky, and part of it has to do with the technology used in facial recognition, and the computational data which can be taken in that process. And just as with Photoshop, the computer merges the images into one. Last weekend there was an interesting Wall Street Journal article that talked about various presidents who were diametrically opposed, and it took each of their pictures and merged them into one.

It was funny to see a picture of Ronald Reagan merged with Jimmy Carter, and another one of Barack Obama merged with President Bush. Nevertheless, I’ve noted that some college professors are now using this technology to merge their faces with famous people, or historical figures which are well ingrained into our minds having studied their profiles. One professor I noted from a prominent university, a professor of psychology who’s written numerous research papers did this to see if anybody would notice.

Obviously, I noticed, as I am writing this article. Since this professor had somewhat similar features to Barack Obama, although he is white, he merged his picture with Barack Obama, and it is displayed on the college website with his biography, research papers etc.. Now then, one has to ask if this is acceptable. First of all he is an authority figure, and although it might be a nice experiment he can put forth in a research paper, it is somewhat a deviant act, involves trickery, and indeed it is a disguise.

Now then, not particularly being a Barack Obama supporter, I laughed, but I also know that many kids are quite indoctrinated into socialist-liberal mindset while they’re in college. Secondly, if this professor is a supporter of Barack Obama, then in a way this is a mental psychological social experiment, which actually uplifts the image of the president, and allows the psychology professor to ride along on Obama’s notoriety, fame, brand, and image as a powerful person, and President of the United States.

Now then, you might say I’m reading too much into this, but since it is occurring, and since manipulating one’s photo may not be illegal on a University website, it is practicing some form of manipulation. And in doing so there are other ramifications, and it’s not all fun and games. If he is doing a research paper, and as he has already will written over 200 of them, then I understand his point, but I’m not so sure it’s maintaining the highest ethical standards. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it in the name of science of psychology.

Who Made Sunglasses Popular?

We know by simply looking around that sunglasses are a pop culture phenomenon. Have you ever stopped to wonder how they became this way? Humans seem to have an obsession with sunglasses as more than protection for their eyes. Sunglasses make a statement about the face they’re sitting on, and can add much needed style to an ensemble. One has to wonder how sunglasses came to be what they are today.

Sunglasses have been worn and made infamous throughout the years by a variety of icons and legends. Some of these iconic names have even been given to their chosen signature style. Former First Lady and American Royalty Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis had a particular favorite style of sunglasses. This oversized look was coined as “Onassis Glasses” or “The Jackie O” and will probably never be known by any other name.

Sir Elton John has paraded his courageous fashions on stage for the past four decades. Known for his amazing way with Ivory keys, and his crazy fashion statements, Elton John has inspired stylistic insanity with his share of peculiar eyewear. He has been seen on stage wearing some of the most imaginative and artistic sunglasses the world has ever known.

However wacky the designs have been, Sir Elton John’s trademark is not necessarily in the frames of the sunglasses he wore. Lenses of all different shades have been this icon’s signature style. Whether yellow, blue or purple, Sir Elton seems to like the way the world looks through these colorful shades.

James Dean helped make one particular style of sunglasses popular. The 1950′s movie star could often be seen wearing the style known as the Wayfarer. This simple design of sunglasses made famous by the “Rebel Without a Cause” is proof that even the most uncomplicated ideas can take off with a little bit of fame behind them.

Later, James Belushi and Dan Aykroyd put their own spin on the retro sunglasses. The Blue Brothers movie of 1980 saw the two sporting the Wayfarer style in a more modern, sleek, black look. The glasses came back in style briefly and made other appearances on the screen, such as Risky Business. No girl can forget a young Tom Cruise in underwear, a dress shirt and his Wayfarers doing a sideways sock-slide to “Old Time Rock and Roll”.

Musicians are known for setting style trends, including sunglasses. In reality, the reason so many musicians began wearing sunglasses while they performed is that the stage lights can be blinding. Additionally, during the 1960′s and 1970′s, musicians like John Lennon, Ozzy Osbourne and Janice Joplin were said to have worn the sunglasses all the time as a way of disguising mysteriously bloodshot eyes. This theory has not been proven, so we can all assume they wore them because they looked cool.

John Lennon and Ozzy Osbourne helped bring the Teashades into popular culture. Other musicians such as Mick Jagger and Janice Joplin favored this style. This style of sunglasses is still mostly associated with former Beatle John Lennon. This is perhaps because not only were they his preferred shape for sunglasses, but his corrective lenses were this shape as well.

Movie and rock stars are not the only ones that have made sunglasses what they are today. The United States Military has had a hand in coining what is possibly the most famous sunglasses style in history. In the 1930′s, Ray Ban designed sunglasses that were sold to the U.S. Military to be issued to pilots. Ladies and Gentlemen, the Aviators are born. This is quite possibly the strangest fashion trend setter yet: the United States Government!

Another example of the average Joe popularizing a fashion trend is in the case of the “cop shades” or Mirror Shades. Police officers favored this design and it quickly made its place in pop culture trivia books everywhere. A popular theory for this preference is that police officers like the intimidating vibe they gave off. It is somewhat unnerving to look into a one-way mirrored pair of sunglasses and not know the expression of the person looking back.

Many people have played a part in making sunglasses the pop culture icon they are today. You don’t have to be a movie star, musician, or government official to start a fashion trend. Pick up a pair of sunglasses that looks good on you, even if they have been out of style since the Reagan Administration. Wear them with pride; you never know when it might catch on!
